Progeria - Hutchinson-Gilford Syndrome Essay -- genetic childhood dis

Progeria, also called Hutchinson-Gilford condition is an incredibly uncommon, hereditary youth issue with an announced rate of around one out of many. Hutchinson revealed the condition in 1886 when he found the main patient with Progeria. In 1904 Gilford depicted a second instance of Progeria, in this manner making the term to mirror the syndrome’s decrepit highlights. There are just around a hundred detailed cases since the confusion has been found longer than a century prior. As of now, there are around thirty to forty known cases worldwide of Progeria. Influenced youngsters age up to multiple times quicker, have â€Å"plucked bird† appearance, numerous medical issues and their life expectancy is around thirteen years. There is neither known reason nor remedy for this illness. It is typically first analyzed dependent on appearance and treatment is given for different conditions related with the maturing procedure rather the illness it self.      Effected kids generally seem typical during childbirth. Be that as it may, inside the main year of life serious changes come into understanding. These include: hairlessness and real male pattern baldness, including eyebrows and eyelashes; â€Å"skin wrinkling joined by pigmented age spots; [†¦] surprisingly shrill voice; lacking or immature sexual development; bone injuries, regularly bringing about cracks and hip dislocation† (Livneh, Antonak and Maron, 1995, p.434). Demise for the most part happens between the age of twelve and thirteen and it is expected to â€Å"cardiovascular crumbling and by and large incorporates arthrosclerosis, myocardial infraction and congestive cardiovascular breakdown (Livneh, Antonak and Maron, 1995, p.434).      The reason for Progeria is obscure starting at yet. In view of its extremely uncommon nature, no unmistakable reason can be pinpointed. Anyway it is resolved to be nonexclusive. As it were, it is felt that it is because of single changed quality and each case may speak to a solitary inconsistent new transformation, which occurs at origination. In this manner, as referenced over, the determination must be shown up.      During my Internet look into regarding this matter, I have discovered a genuine story of a thirteen-year-old young lady, named Ashley. Her story caught my heart and I might want to utilize Ashley for instance in assisting with understanding the ailment, its encouraging and how it influences individuals included. Ashley was conceived on May 23, 1991 as what it appeared to be an ordinary and sound child young lady. In July 1991 specialists disco... ...f the ailment and demise to help adapt and adjust appropriately. General intercession suggestions can concentrate on; the child’s needs, other relatives and the guardians. Other intercession can address social issues, for example, otherworldliness, emotionality, adapting modes and adjustment strategies. It is extremely difficult to state to a parent of a withering youngster that any of the above may support a messed up heart, notwithstanding, proficient assistance, understanding and adoring condition and family may facilitate the hardships of loosing one’s kid, kin or a companion. My 7 Favorite Places to P-Set!

My 7 Favorite Places to P-Set! Without a doubt, I think every student here can agree that problem sets take a significant portion of their time throughout the week. Here is my normal setup: I always carry my single notebook that randomly switches topics between all my classes like the change from American Foreign Policy to RL circuits as you can see from the picture. With four or five classes and UROPs, the homework piles up throughout the week. Also, there is most likely assigned reading for your classes that just add to the time out of class contributed to mastering the material. For me, I cannot stand working in my room. I feel cramped and not as productive as there are so many things within my reach that can easily distract me. Due to this, since the beginning of the semester, I have begun to use some locations around Cambridge and Boston to complete the majority of my work. I have ranked them using the criteria of table space, level of noise, proximity to food, and accessibility. Without further ado, here are my top seven places to P-Set: 1. Quincy Market, Upstairs by the GAP This is my favorite place largely due to the mall of food just a staircase away. I normally come here on Friday after I do some of my UROP. I will go upstairs, where there are three to four circular tables that overlook the courtyard that is now occupied by the huge Christmas tree in the picture! I do a lot of my calculus and physics here because of the table space. I can lay out my notebook, connect my computer to the GAP Wi-Fi and enjoy the noise of the ground below. There is normally not much going on up here on the second floor, and I go grab something to eat right after! Bike ride from campus time: 20ish minutes. 2. Random Classrooms Around Campus/ Barker Study Spaces I go here when I am with my friends! We have a few spots that are normally open at the hours that we like to P-Set together, but I will leave the room numbers confidential so they do not get overcrowded. Overall though, it is great to have all the accessible chalkboards to use when working. This way, we all can work and display our work for one another. Normally, our Saturday and Friday nights (We are quite the party animals) are spent in these rooms, while I use all my other locations when I am by myself working. It is on campus! Just a walk, well, a bike ride for me since I live at Next! 3. Long Wharf Although the chilly weather is quickly making this place unavailable unless I want hypothermia from the sea breeze, this is probably the most relaxing spot that I go to. I normally read here, for both classes and for the joy of reading. I sit on the edge and dangle my legs over as tourists upon tourists walk around me taking pictures with the Boston harbor background. I have probably photobombed over 500 family photos, and I plan on continuing all four years here. On a side note, I rode my longboard there to take the picture, and I managed to run over a chicken wing and almost wipe out in front of a trolley tour bus that was loading up its passengers at the time. It was quite the experience and highlight of the day. Bike ride from campus time: 25ish minutes. 4. Boston Garden The Boston Garden is great for two reasons; 1. I can sit in the grass and work and 2. I can get sidetracked by watching dogs chase squirrels up trees. I come here to work on my blogs and write my essays for my foreign policy class. I go here a lot. Sometimes I go just to have a quick break from riding my bike when the wind is too strong. Sometimes I come to work. It is really a peaceful place and moderately close to campus. Plus, there is an Asian man who plays an interesting instrument sometimes close to where I work, and it sounds like some type of pan-flute violin hybrid that sets the tone for my work. Bike ride from campus time: 12ish minutes. 5. Brookline Benches While many of the previous locations are grouped close to one another at the heart of Boston, I also enjoy some of the newer places that I have found. On my weekly run for snacks at the Target by Fenway, I was riding my longboard down this one road that was awfully hilly. To get to the point of the story, I couldn’t stop quickly enough to successfully cross the street to get to Target and I ended up turning the other way to go along with my longboard until it slowed down. Weirdly enough, I stumbled upon this trail in the woods that runs parallel to one of the Green-Line T trains, and I found a secluded and wild area. Similar to the Boston Garden, this place is perfect for reading. I really enjoy reading in general, so I spend a significant portion of my time reading throughout the week. Anyways, the photo I took above is the view from the bench I sit at that is currently covered in all of the falling leaves! Definitely the nicest scenery out of all the locations and probably the qu ietest. On Sunday afternoons, I make my way over here with some of the snacks I bought the Friday prior, and I type on my computer or read my books. Truly recommended for those who enjoy peace and quiet while working. Bike ride from campus time: 15ish minutes. 6. Prudential Center Inside and Outside To my sadness, the little outdoor area I normally work on has been closed for the season, but it is okay because it’s getting really really cold here. Like, today, I experienced the coldest temperatures of my entire life. I am definitely not in Florida anymore! I went out today in part to get the photos of the places, and I came back with my nose running and shivering and realizing that Winter is Coming. The Prudential Center is like my second Quincy Market, where I have access to both tables and food. Today, I brought my 8.02 problem set there, and I worked on a table that looks out into the outdoor area I used to work in. Then, after working, I grabbed something to eat in Eataly, where I tried some fancy chocolate nuggets that were amazing. The place is loud and the conversations are plentiful. I like the hustle and bustle sometimes to have in the background when I work! Bike ride from campus time: 10ish minutes 7. Inside Fenway Target This is probably the most oddly specific case. Weirdly enough, although the goal of all of these locations is to P-Set, they are all connected to food in one way or another. In this case, the Target functions as both my snack dealer and second desk away from my room. When I go get my snacks, I normally like to relax for a bit before biking back to my dorm, so I bring my notebook with me and the paper copy of my homework in my back pack. The target is built in three stories, and there are tables next to the Starbucks after the cash registers on the second floor, where I can overlook the streets without being a part of the honking and constant movement. This place is a quick stop, maybe for a problem or two, before I move on with my day. Bike ride from campus time: 15ish minutes. Overall, I like to mix it up with doing my work. Boston is really a cool city, and I am sure by this time next year, I’ll have a whole new list of places that I work on my stuff. I thought this would be helpful in both showing you a little bit of what Boston has to offer and how you can fit that bit of Boston, or the surrounding neighborhoods, into your academic part of life. It is a lot more motivating to finish a P-Set when you know that down the stairs await a piece of Fudge from Sprinkles or a warm cookie from Kilvert and Forbes that are my two favorite desserts from Quincy Market. When you have twenty problems to finish between Saturday and Sunday, get out, spend some time in Boston, eat some food, and work on the problems efficiently in the meantime with a full belly and beautiful view.

Terrorism Essay - 678 Words

Terrorism Terrorism†¦This is a very common word in today’s society. What does it mean? Or more importantly how do â€Å"we† prevent it and if necessary combat it? The word most commonly used to explain this is counter terrorism, but is also known as anti-terrorism. The military is a great force in combating terrorism with specialist groups in nearly each branch of the armed forces. Prior to the September 11 attacks the United States Armed Forces worked hand in hand with NATO and the United Nations combating terror. However after these attacks, the United States Military has become a widely utilized entity on fighting terrorism. Before even discussing anything about terrorism you have to have a broad understand of what it is. The†¦show more content†¦What few people understand is that terrorist groups are very organized and one unit of the cell can have no idea who the members of another unit are. In other words two people can be working for the same cause, in the same organization pass each other on the street and have no idea who each other are. This is to set up a lack of information chain. One cell will only know their part. If they were to be captured they could not give information about the other cells in their organization. This is one of the reasons it is so hard to combat terrorism and why using the military is so controversial. What is the militaries role in combating terrorism? How do you fight something with guns that is so broad and complex? It seems that the militaries current role is to capture known terrorists and to kill anyone that poses a threat. However it is much more complex then it appears. Each branch has a role in combating terrorism, some more advertised than others. Not only does each branch work by itself but they also work together and with other countries. When working as their own entities they still work together. For Example currently in Iraq, the United States Army is working on their own set of missions and the same with the Marines. However the missions the Army and Marine forces accomplish work to accomplish the goals for their country. So in a sense the not one branch will ever work completely alone. Bob dylan a classic Essay Example For Students

Bob dylan: a classic Essay Mr. Tambourine ManChorusHey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for meIm not sleepy and there is no place Im going toHey, Mr. Tambourine man, play a song for meIm the jingle jangle morning Ill come following youThough I know the evenings empire has returned into sandVanished from my handLeft me blindly here to stand but still not sleepingMy weariness amazes me, Im branded on my feetI have no one to meetAnd the ancient empty streets too dead for dreamingChorusTake me on a trip on your magic swirling shipMy senses have been strippedMy hands cant feel to gripMy toes too numb to stepWait only for my bootheels to be wanderingIm ready to go anywhere, Im ready for to fadeInto my own paradeCast your dancing spell my way, I promise to go under it. ChorusThough you might hear laughing, spinning, swinging madly across the sunIts not aimed at anyoneIts just escaping on the runAnd but for the sky there are no fences facingAnd if you hear vague traces of skipping reel rhymeTo your tambourine in timeIts just a ragged clown behindI wouldnt pat it any mindIts just a shadow youre seeing hes chasingChorusTake me disappearing through the smoke rings of my mindDown the foggy ruins of timeFar past the frozen leavesThe haunted frightened treesOut to the windy beachFar from the twisted reach of crazy sorrowYes to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving freeSilhouetted by the seaCircled by the circus sandsWith all memory and fate driven deep beneath the wavesLet me forget about today until tomorrowChorusThe first interpretation I got of Bob Dylans Mr. Tambourine Man is that the song is about drugs. This makes sense, as it was against the law to write songs about drugs in the 1960s when the song was composed. The metaphors are simpl e: Mr. Tambourine Man is the drug dealer. Take me on a trip upon your magic swirling ship is asking the drug dealer for drugs, and then the lyrics go on to describe the physical effects on the body after consuming hallucinogens: My senses have been stripped, My hands cant fell to grip, My toes too numb too step Another obvious reference to drug taking comes from the fourth verse, Take me disappearing through the smoke rings of my mind The smoke rings relating literally to drugs being smoked, the last line of the last verse, also if taken literally, relates to escaping from the realities of life by using drugs: Let me forget about today until tomorrow. However, this interpretation does not explain some of the vivid imagery used throughout the sing where it is not easy to draw parallels between drugs and the image, for example, The haunted frightened tress. This phrase could be written about the emotional state of the drug user, and by instilling those emotions onto something else the surreal atmosphere already invoked in the earlier passages is heightened. In the second and third verses there are several lines expressing surprise at feeling fatigued: My weariness amazes me and how the body is also tired: My toes too numb to step. Bob Dylan said himself Drugs never played a part in that songDisappearing through the smoke rings of my mind, thats not drugs, drugs were never a big thing with me. This leads me to believe that the song is indeed about something other than drugs. Some analysts have written about the song as an expression of freedom. One clear example of a phrase that expresses a sense of freedom is, To dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free/ Silhouetted by the sea This image strongly evokes the idea of someone living freely, dancing on a beach, and the connotations that the sea and the sky provide here, of openness and liberty. There are several references to escaping, Im ready to go anywhere, but for the sky there are no fences facing which means that the sky is the limit, just escaping on the run and again Let me forget about today until tomorrow. These lines fit with the freedom theme, escaping to achieve independence. But forgetting about today until tomorrow seems to only be a t emporary escape. .u8354c71aed5d2cfd127dc6c4f9248854 , .u8354c71aed5d2cfd127dc6c4f9248854 .postImageUrl , .u8354c71aed5d2cfd127dc6c4f9248854 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u8354c71aed5d2cfd127dc6c4f9248854 , .u8354c71aed5d2cfd127dc6c4f9248854:hover , .u8354c71aed5d2cfd127dc6c4f9248854:visited , .u8354c71aed5d2cfd127dc6c4f9248854:active { border:0!important; } .u8354c71aed5d2cfd127dc6c4f9248854 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u8354c71aed5d2cfd127dc6c4f9248854 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u8354c71aed5d2cfd127dc6c4f9248854:active , .u8354c71aed5d2cfd127dc6c4f9248854:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u8354c71aed5d2cfd127dc6c4f9248854 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u8354c71aed5d2cfd127dc6c4f9248854 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u8354c71aed5d2cfd127dc6c4f9248854 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u8354c71aed5d2cfd127dc6c4f9248854 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u8354c71aed5d2cfd127dc6c4f9248854:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u8354c71aed5d2cfd127dc6c4f9248854 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u8354c71aed5d2cfd127dc6c4f9248854 .u8354c71aed5d2cfd127dc6c4f9248854-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u8354c71aed5d2cfd127dc6c4f9248854:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Mental health EssayIt has also been suggested that Mr. Tambourine Man is a poem about transcendence, or reaching enlightenment. You could see Bob Dylan himself as Mr. Tambourine Man, and he does Cast his dancing spell through the magical and fantastic imagery of swirling ships and trips into ones own mind. I believe that this song could be about all of these ideas, and the importance of one in particular relating only to the mood of the listener. The lyrics provide the possibility to understand the song in different contexts by different listeners. The ideas differ between people, some finding freedom in Dylans song, some feeling like they are under a spell when listening to the light repetitive tune and figurative language, The cleverness of the language is hat people can read almost anything into it, the most basic example being Mr. Tambourine Man, who can be seen as anything from a drug dealer to a religious man to Bob Dylan himself. Another reason that the song has such a hallucinogenic feeling is the structure of the song. The verses are made up of what appears to be many individual concepts put together, like a dream, giving a surreal effect.
